Inspired by biomimetics, NADES (Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents) are natural and biodegradable solutions that are transforming extraction processes. They enable not only the efficient extraction of bioactive compounds, but also the integration in the final ingredient formulation, reducing processing steps, waste, and environmental impact.

This webinar will highlight the work of Professor Ana Rita Duarte, Researcher at LAQV – Associated Laboratory for Green Chemistry, , in the Department of Chemistry of the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of NOVA University of Lisbon. Her research focuses on the development and application of NADES in sustainable extraction processes.

These studies are part of the mission of LAQV, which is integrated into the REQUIMTE network. Its activities cover, among other areas, biocatalysis, separation and purification processes, the development of alternative solvents and reaction media, compound synthesis and processing, as well as systems biology, metabolic modeling, and thermophysics.

The laboratory is equipped with a pilot-scale process engineering platform (120 m²), featuring (bio)reactors, membrane units, extraction and separation systems, as well as a supercritical fluids unit. The goal is to develop sustainable and economically viable processes for the production of high value-added molecules, with a strong focus on technological valorization, scalability, industrial partnerships, patents, and the creation of start-ups.
