The International Energy Agency’s 10th Annual Global Conference on Energy Efficiency was held on the 12-13th of June.
Co-hosted by Dr Fatih Birol (IEA’s Executive Director) and Dan Jørgensen (the European Commissioner for Energy and Housing), and in partnership with the Energy Efficiency Movement, this year’s edition examined how to maximise the potential of energy efficiency as a tool to improve affordability, whilst ensuring competitiveness for industries and maintaining energy security.
Two days of panels, roundtable discussions, workshops and meetings provided participants with opportunities to develop solutions to improve policy action. Parallel ministerial and CEO roundtables were held to provide both government decision makers, as well as industry leaders, the setting to examine current challenges and the potential levers to move forward. The event saw nearly 700 participants from close to 100 countries.
Ministers and senior officials of 47 governments backed the multi-level advantages (economic, social, sustainable) of energy efficiency, and reaffirmed “the role energy efficiency plays to ensure affordable and secure energy services for our citizens, enhance competitiveness of our businesses, and safeguard the energy security of our nations”.
